Yorkshire Coast 10k Returns As Entries Open

A popular race which starts and ends on Scarborough's South Bay is back for 2021.

The eagerly-awaited McCain Yorkshire Coast 10k opens for entries on Tuesday 1st June at 7am. If you want to take part though you will need to be quick, as spaces for the popular annual event sold out in under three hours the last time the race was run.

After being cancelled last year due to Covid, this year's event will be on Sunday 17th October with a limit of 2,000 places. Starting at 10am, participants will make their way around the Marine Drive, to the Sea Life Centre, returning via the North Bay promenade.

This year's event will focus heavily on zero waste and reducing its environmental footprint. This year's lower entry fee of £16 will not include a free T-Shirt; instead organisers have partnered with Trees not Tees, to donate a percentage of each runner's entry to planting a tree.
The main road race is followed by 2.5k and 1.6k Family Fun Runs - both of which are free for under 15s.

This year, Alan Whelan and Danny Walls from Scarborough Athletics Club have taken the reigns as Race Directors.

Danny said:

"Safety is always our number one priority and runners can feel reassured the event will closely follow all protocols and guidance set down by UK Athletics and the Government. A no touch policy will be in place and a robust three step contingency plan is in place, just in case large events need to be scaled back due to Covid."

Jennifer Domett from McCain said:

"We're really proud to have supported the McCain Yorkshire Coast 10k for the past 12 years - and this year we've committed to plant an additional tree for every race entry, including the free family fun runs - so we're looking at over 4,000 trees in total.

"The environmental benefit of planting a tree is huge. It helps us fight against climate change by taking carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere, it provides a home for a diverse range of species, and it gives us clean air to breath. We're delighted to be contributing to a sustainable reforestation project whilst supporting one of the area's favourite local events."

For more information and the entry form visit www.yorkshirecoast10k.co.uk. Participants who want a t-shirt will still have the option of getting one and every runner will still receive a medal.
