The Ukrainian Opera company will be performing in Scarborough for the first time later this month.
The Ukrainian Nation Opera will be performing Puccini’s opera Madama Butterfly at Scarborough Spa this month as part of a wider UK Tour.
For the Scarborough performance the Ukrainian singers will be joined on stage by ten year old Eva Johnson from Whitby.
Eva will portray the son of Madama Butterfly, ‘Sorrow’. Eva currently attends Colebrooke Productions where she is studying Acting, Musical Theatre, Contemporary and Commercial and is taking exams in all current aspects of performing. She has just completed a run of performances in ‘Matilda JR The Musical’ where she starred as Lavendar. Eva says she is exited about being on stage with Ukrainian Opera singers and says it will be an experience she will remember for a long time.

For the first time ever the Ukrainian National Opera is touring the UK from 9 February to 5 April 2023. Coming all the way from Dnipro, Ukraine, the opera company, features an impressive cast and will be accompanied by a large live orchestra comprising over thirty musicians
Producer, Alexej Ignatow of Amande Concerts Ltd. said:
“We are really excited to be presenting this opera company to UK audiences in these difficult times. The journey has been extremely challenging, but I am glad we have overcome the many extraordinary obstacles and have now received all the necessary visas and clearances for the Ukrainian artists.
The cast has been rehearsing vigorously over the last five weeks, and will continue to do so until the very moment when they will be leaving for the UK."
The Scarborough performance will be on Wednesday 22nd February at Scarborough Spa.
