Whitby Town have strengthened their squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign with the signing of versatile young defender Leon Gibson-Booth.
The Seasiders confirmed the arrival of Gibson-Booth this Saturday as manager Lee Bullock continues preparations for the new season, adding another promising talent to his ranks at the Towbar Express Stadium.
Gibson-Booth joins Whitby after gaining valuable experience at Northern Premier League level with Cleethorpes Town, where he continued his development in senior football and accumulated important minutes at Step 3.
Known for his energy, work ethic and adaptability, the defender is capable of operating across a number of positions in the back line. Comfortable both in possession and defensively, he is expected to add flexibility and dynamism to Bullock’s squad as the club looks to build on its ambitions for the season ahead.
During his spell with Cleethorpes, Gibson-Booth featured in the Northern Premier League Premier Division, continuing a progression that has seen him grow in confidence and maturity within the senior game.
The defender is also a product of York City’s development pathway and previously enjoyed loan spells with Morpeth Town and Scarborough Athletic. His time at Craik Park provided further exposure to the demands of men’s football, where he impressed with his ability to adapt quickly to the physical and competitive nature of non-league football.
Speaking after completing his move to Whitby, Gibson-Booth revealed the club’s vision played a significant role in his decision.
“It’s the excitement of the new project that’s enticed me here and also what I’ve seen other young players do here.
“It seems a great club in general so it was a bit of a no brainer in that sense.”
Whitby Town will hope Gibson-Booth’s arrival can further strengthen their defensive options as preparations continue for the 2026/27 season.
Everyone at the club has welcomed the defender to the Towbar Express Stadium and will be hoping he enjoys a successful spell in Seasiders colours.
