Whitby Town Football Club has outlined a series of proposed structural changes aimed at strengthening governance, improving operational effectiveness, and deepening its connection with the local community.
The proposals, discussed at a recent Supporters’ Club meeting, centre on the introduction of a modernised Board structure that brings together football and commercial operations under a more unified and accountable leadership model. The intention is to create clearer lines of responsibility, improve transparency, and ensure the club is better positioned to meet both its short-term challenges and long-term ambitions.
As part of this transition, the club has confirmed that several key positions within the Board of Directors are expected to become available for application in the near future. These roles will offer individuals the opportunity to play a direct part in shaping the strategic direction of Whitby Town, with further details on responsibilities and the application process to be released in due course.
Alongside the revised Board, the proposals include the formation of a supporting Committee and a dedicated Community Board. The Committee would act as an operational support and accountability body, with responsibilities spanning stadium management, media and marketing activity, and the coordination of volunteers. The Community Board, led by a designated Community Champion, would focus on expanding the club’s charitable work, developing partnerships, and increasing engagement with schools, local organisations, and underrepresented groups.
The proposed Board structure itself includes clearly defined roles such as a centralised Secretary, a Working Chair or Vice Chair with a strong community presence, a Finance Manager overseeing financial operations, and a Commercial Manager responsible for sponsorship, supporter engagement, and revenue generation.
In addition to governance changes, the club has identified several strategic priorities, including exploring the development of a 3G pitch, increasing the use of the clubhouse and stadium for events, and strengthening the Whitby Town brand through enhanced community involvement. A number of operational improvements have also been highlighted, such as extending bar opening hours, improving communication with supporters, enhancing media output, and expanding fundraising initiatives.
These proposals remain subject to further discussion and refinement, but they represent a clear commitment from Whitby Town to modernise its structure and build a more sustainable future. With new leadership opportunities on the horizon, the club is encouraging those with the relevant skills and passion to consider playing a role in its next phase of development.
