They hope to output 100,000 juveline lobsters into the waters of the Yorkshire Coast
Alongside conserving and growing the lobster industry, they plan to open a Discover Centre on the site of the Fish Market on Pier Road in Whitby.
Project Manager Joe Redfearn has been speaking to Paddy At Breakfast today. He says it's all about conservation, education and research:
It really has conservation at the heart of the project. We're trying to conserve the lobster populations around the Yorkshire Coast and in turn protect the fishing livelihoods into the future. The Yorkshire Coast is the lobster capital of Europe. We're hoping to output up to 100,000 juveline lobsters into the sea but alongside that we're hoping to have a place of education to invite people to come and learn about the hatchery and the wild and wonderful sea creatures we have on the Yorkshire Coast. We're hoping to open on Pier Road in Whitby by summer 2021 and to help us do that today we're launching our crowdfunder".
