Two Wins Two Losses For Yorkshire Coast Cricketers

There were victories for Scarborough and Bridlington in dramatic style, on Saturday, but defeats for Folkton & Flixton and Whitby.

For Scarborough, it was an incredible run chase which featured a winning six from the final ball.

Piet Rinke's men travelled to Sessay who chose to bat first in the YPN Premier Division.

Despite Guy Emmet striking early for the visitors, Sessay eased to 176 for 3 and 216/5, but Boro bowled well to restrict them the Humber outfit to 241/8 from their 50 overs. Breidyn Schaper took 3 for 63 and Ed Hopper picked up 2 for 6 from his single over.

Scarborough made the perfect start to their reply, putting on 152 for the first wicket as stand-in wicket-keeper Duncan Brown fell for a lively 87. Fellow opener Oliver Stephenson then went soon after with the score on 165, after making a useful 61. The away side then collapsed from 176/2 to 194/6. Schaper remained however to anchor the innings. He battled to the final ball of the innings and with scores level, he finished the match in style with a towering six as Scarborough picked up a dramatic two wicket win to go fourth in the table.

Bridlington also had a dramatic chase, in the YPN Championship, at home to Pickering. Russell Robinson and Tom Hudson bowled well to restrict the Ryedale side to 36 for 3 early on. However, the visitors recovered well to 155/5. A 67-run eighth wicket partnership saw the visitors to a challenging 250/8 from their 50 overs.

Brid started well, in response, putting on 88 for the first wicket, with wicket-keeper Sam Wragg making 42. The second wicket was lost quickly but another big partnership took the hosts to 174 before losing Casey Rudd for 83. Again quick wickets fell and Brid were suddenly 188/6. Steve Janney and Ricky Robinson kept the hosts' hopes alive- Janney went for a quickfire 28, with 230 on the board, but Hudson joined Robinson to see things home with just two balls to spare for a two-wicket win. Brid a sixth after a mixed start to the new season.

Folkton & Flixton chose to bat first against Easingwold in the same division. They were soon in trouble at 11 for 2. They rebuilt to 47 before the third wicket fell but then staggered to 154. The village side were bowled out with two overs of their innings remaining- 23 was the top score from Cameron Anderson.

Despite Tom Wilson striking early, the visitors were rarely troubled on the way to their target. Charlie Colley and Elliot Hatton took two wickets each but Easingwold got home with more than five overs and five wickets in hand. Folkton & Flixton sit ninth in the division.

Whitby are still searching for their first victory, in North Yorkshire South Durham Division One. Only Blackhall keep them off the bottom of the table after defeat at Wolviston. Asked to bat first, Kai Morris' men made a bright start, adding 50 for the first wicket before Theo Clarke was dismissed for a brisk 18. Fellow opener went for 31 with the score on 68, but Andy Wood (26) dug in with Morris (36). The pair took Whitby to 112 before Wood's dismissal and Paul Buck then fell for a duck. But Whitby again showed positive signs in rebuilding to 151 as Morris and Alf Jacobs combined. But Morris' departure for 36 was soon followed by Jacobs for 32 and the away side had to be happy with 18-/6 from their 50 overs.

Kobie Boocock struck early to leave Wolviston 11/1 and 46/2 but they rebuilt in the middle order and got home with more than 16 overs to spare and only two more wickets lost. Boocock finished with figures of 2 for 35 with Ricky Hall and Jack Cairns taking one wicket each.
