It was a mixed Saturday for our local cricket sides with Scarborough, Whitby, Bridlington and Folkton & Flixton all in action.
Scarborough returned to winning ways at Harrogate in YPN Premier.
Piet Rinke's men reduced hosts Harrogate from 142 for 2 to 176 for 7 as they limped to 205/8 from their 50 overs.
Two of the wickets came from run outs with all-rounder Ben Elvidge taking 2 for 67 including the key wicket of home skipper William Bates for 77.
Rinke himself also impressed, conceding just four runs from four overs at the start of the innings.
In response, Scarborough lost Oliver Stephenson for 3 but his fellow opener, Duncan Brown racked up a superb century. The visitors had 90 on the board when they lost Breidyn Schaper for 37. But Elvidge (48 not out) and Brown (114) eased the visitors home with more than ten overs remaining.
Scarborough are in cup action on Sunday when they host Stockton at North Marine Road with a 1pm start.
Bridlington were also successful, in the YPN Championship.
Brid batted first at Duke's Park and started strongly putting on 118 for the first wicket with wicket keeper Sam Wragg blasting a destructive 91 from just 68 balls, including 17 fours. Casey Rudd (38) and Joshua Mainprize (24) added useful contributions with Russell Robinson coming in to hammer 66 from 55 balls, with 3 sixes.
In reply, visitors Cottingham limped to 7 for 3 as Nathan Johnson and Tom Hudson struck early on. The away side never recovered and were skittled for 155 in the 42nd over.
In the same division, Folkton & Flixton restricted Hull Zingari to 180/8 from their 50 overs. Harry Walmsley took 3 for 35 and there were two wickets apiece for Jadon Wilson and Charlie Colley.
In response, the villagers lost both openers cheaply but fought back to 93/2, before collapsing to 99/5. Walmsley made 35 and Max Harland 48, but the hosts were bowled out with more than 15 overs to spare, some 45 runs short.
In North Yorkshire South Durham Division One, Whitby limped to another defeat. Ricky Hall and skipper Kai Morris took two wickets apiece but opponents Normanby Hall still posted a useful 231/6 from their 50 overs.
Whitby were never in the game in reply as they struggled to 39/6. The only resistance came from Ricky Hall (21), Mark Jackson (17) and top-scorer Matt Steyert at number ten with 23 not out. The visitors were skittled for 118 in the 45th over as they lost by 113 runs.
