Whitby Coastguard Rescue Team were called in to action on Bank Holiday Monday afternoon after three people became cut off by the tide under the Old Coastguard Lookout close to East Pier.
Whitby RNLI lifeboat's ILB was also tasked by Humber Coastguard and a member of the team from RNLI Lifeguards Yorkshire's team at Whitby beach assisted in locating the casualties with their rescue craft.
Upon arrival at the scene, members of the Coastguard Team made their way out across the rocks to the casualties to assess the situation. The RNLI Inshore Lifeboat attended and all options for extrication by sea or over the rocks were assessed. It was decided the best option was for Coastguards to assist the casualties back across the rocks to the East Pier. On arrival at the East Pier, Coastguards assessed the welfare of the casualties and gave some casualty care and safety advice.
Please ensure that you are well prepared for whatever activity you intend to undertake at the Coast. In particular remember to take appropriate equipment for the conditions and check the weather forecast and tide times before you set out.
If you see anyone in trouble at sea or on the coast, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
