The incident took place at around 3pm on Tuesday, with the individuals suffering bites before emergency responders could reach the scene. Police officers deployed a Taser to safely contain the animal and prevent any further risk to the community.
Officers brought the situation under control swiftly upon arrival. Authorities have since transported the dog to secure kennels, confirming that the animal is fit and well and suffered no injuries during the containment process.
The owner of the dog is currently assisting officers with their ongoing enquiries. Investigators do not believe there is any continuing risk to the wider public at this time.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said:
"We responded to reports of a dangerously out-of-control dog in the East Ayton area at around 3pm this afternoon. It is understood that two members of the public were bitten by the dog prior to officers arriving at the scene.
Officers acted swiftly to bring the situation under control and prevent any further risk to the public. A Taser was deployed and the dog was safely contained.
The two members of the public sustained minor injuries from the dog during the incident.
The dog has been taken to secure kennels and is fit and well with no injuries.
Enquiries are ongoing, and there is not believed to be any ongoing risk to the wider public at this time. The owner of the dog is assisting us with our enquiries."
Police officials are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant information to come forward.
