Scarborough sailor Guy Waites has arrived in Cape Town South Africa after 101 days of non-stop sailing and for the first time has been able to see the scale of his barnacle problem.
Guy is taking part in the Golden globe round the world yacht race. He set of from France in September in an effort to sail single handedly around the world using technology from 1968.

Guy's progress in the race has been hampered for several weeks now by an infestation of barnacles slowing him to a crawl.
As Guy reached Cape Town yesterday, the race leaders were approaching Hobart in Tasmania.
Guy has made several attempts to remove the barnacles while at sea but a lack of tools and rough seas have hampered his efforts. Having reached Cape Town Guy has now been able to lift his vessel, Sagarmatha, out of the water to see for the first time the full extent of the infestation.

You can follow Guy's progressing using the live tracker which is available here https://goldengloberace.com/live-tracker/
