The Ship Inn has taken the decision to end its long-running Charity Bonfire Night Extravaganza.
The popular annual event, which has been a staple of local Bonfire Night celebrations, has been permanently cancelled by the establishment, though they have expressed immense pride in the legacy it leaves behind.
Charlie Kilburn from The Ship Inn, confirmed they had “respectfully taken the decision to end our Charity Bonfire Night Extravaganza.”
Mr. Kilburn highlighted the significant positive impact the event has had over its tenure.
“Whilst we are saddened to do so, we are proud to have supported so many charities and raised over £60,000 over the years with the help of you, our local community and from people far and wide,”
The success of the event, which drew attendees from across the area, was attributed to the dedication of numerous individuals and organisations.
Charlie specifically extended gratitude to the event's core support network, saying:
“Thank you to our staff over the years, our band of volunteer’s, Ryan at The Property Shop and to ERYC and Sewerby Hall for their hard work and efforts.”
As a result of the cancellation, attendees who previously flocked to The Ship Inn for the display are being directed to other local, organised celebrations for a safer Bonfire Night.
Charlie is encouraging the community to rally around other venues, including the local rugby team.
“Please support the Bridlington Rugby Club and other local organised events if you wish to celebrate Bonfire Night safely,”
Reflecting on the years of successful events, The Ship Inn team concluded that they “have certainly had some great nights and will miss organising the event.”
