North Yorkshire’s dedicated service for families concerning Special Educational Needs and Disabilities has been nominated in one of the UK’s largest diversity awards.
The Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information, Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS) has been nominated for the Community Organisation Award (Disability) at The National Diversity Awards 2021.
SENDIASS North Yorkshire is for children and young people from 0 to 25 years and their parents and carers in relation to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
They provide impartial advice and support about what the law says, the local authority’s policies and procedures and the policy and practice in schools and other settings.
County Councillor Janet Sanderson, Executive Member for the Children and Young People’s Service, said:
“I’d like to say a huge congratulations to SENDIASS for being nominated for such a prestigious award. The committed team provide a valuable service so this is a testament to all their hard work.
“They have gone above and beyond for users during the pandemic, offering virtual drop-ins for those looking to talk to a coordinator about their concerns and streaming YouTube videos.
“Despite the challenges they have provided the best support possible and continue to expand their range of services. I would encourage everybody to get behind the nomination.”
