Scarborough Engineering Week Gets New Name as 16th Anniversary Approaches

Scarborough's long-running Science & Engineering Week is undergoing a significant rebrand, and will now be known as Scarborough STEM Week.

Organisers say the change is intended to more accurately reflect its core purpose of inspiring young people to explore careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math’s. A new logo has also been created to accompany the name change.

The newly named Scarborough STEM Week is scheduled to take place from 7th to 9th October 2025 at The Spa in Scarborough. The 2025 edition marks the 16th anniversary of the event.

Organisers state the event aims to encourage young people to choose studying and working in STEM fields. It focuses on bringing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths to life, inspiring young minds towards a brighter future.

Over the years, the event has attracted more than 42,000 students since its inaugural year, aiming to inspire a future workforce into skill-based careers covering science, design, technology, engineering, and maths.

For 2025, the event is expected to attract around 3,500 young people. This includes those aged from seven to nineteen from schools across the coast and beyond, specifically engaging approximately 3500 young people aged 10-19 from schools and colleges across the North Yorkshire Coast, Ryedale and beyond.

The provisional programme for Scarborough STEM Week 2025 includes dedicated sessions for schools and colleges throughout the day. Pre-registered secondary schools and colleges are scheduled for Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th October from 9:30 am to 2:45 pm, while pre-registered primary schools will attend on Thursday 9th October from 9:15 am to 3:15 pm.

A key part of the event is the public Careers & Progression Event. This session is scheduled for the evening of the opening day, Tuesday 7th October, from 6 pm to 8 pm at The Spa. According to sources, no booking is required for this session, and it is open to the general public, young people of all ages, parents/carers, as well as adults seeking to change careers. All are welcome. This careers evening is sponsored by KD Recruitment.

A prestigious dinner event will be held on Wednesday 8th October, starting from 7 pm onwards. The Scarborough STEM Week Dinner & Awards is open to any type of business and is sponsored by Made Smarter. Those interested in tickets should contact events@nybep.org.uk using the subject header STEM Week 2025. The menu for the dinner will be prepared and served by tutors and students from Scarborough TEC’s catering course. Several awards will be presented during the event, including a memorial trophy in honour of Vaugn Bulmer, who was head of coach engineering at Plaxton, where the first engineering week was held.

Around 40 local, regional, and national employers, as well as training and education organisations, are expected to exhibit at The Spa. Organisations interested in taking part or schools and colleges wishing to register are encouraged to book.

The event is supported by a range of sponsors for 2025. McCain Foods is the Headline Sponsor, while Made Smarter serves as the Dinner Sponsor and Innovation Sponsor. Anglo American is also listed among sponsors. North Yorkshire Council is providing support as Venue Sponsor, facilitating the use of The Spa, and also acts as Transport Sponsor, providing transport for schools to take part. Lloyd Dowson is named as a Show Sponsor, KD Recruitment as a Show Sponsor and Careers Evening Sponsor, and SWC as STEM Enrichment Sponsor. The celebration is also supported by the North Yorkshire Business and Education Partnership (NYBEP).
