Scarborough Borough COVID Infection Rate Increases

Monday, 22 March 2021 10:27

By Carl Gavaghan, Local Democracy Reporter

The Scarborough borough's infection rate continues to climb as the further easing of lockdown restrictions is on the horizon.

The borough’s seven-day infection rate per 100,000 people is up to 34, a rise of two on Friday and up six on the same time last week.

The Scarborough borough is averaging five new cases every day.

The average infection rate in England is now 56 per 100,000 while in North Yorkshire as a whole it is 45.

In one weeks’ time on Monday March 29 the Government’s “stay at home” order is due to end with groups of six or two households allowed to meet outdoors.

Some outdoor sports activities will also reopen but people will still be urged to work from home where possible.

Mobile testing facilities will be available in Whitby, Scarborough and Filey this week for anyone with symptoms to get tested.

William Street Coach Park in Scarborough is also still offering testing seven days a week from 8am until 8pm.

Tests can be booked at https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test.
