Councillor Steve Siddons says a major redevelopment of Scarborough's West Pier is fully funded and will be fully delivered.
That's according to Borough Council Leader - Steve Siddons.
There had been concerns from the local fishing industry that the money for the project might run out before the work on the piers fishing facilities is completed.
Steve Siddons says that's not the case.
The regeneration project is intended to improve the area's appeal for visitors and support the fishing fleet.
The project will involve renovating heritage buildings, building new retail kiosks, public toilets and bait sheds and creating a open space which can be used for events. It will involve relocating some of the existing fishing fleet facilities to the far end of the pier.
Council leader Steve Siddons says with the government approving the borough's towns deal cash last week the project is now fully funded.
Scarborough Borough Council own, operate and maintain the pier and the Estate’s Service currently lease property on the pier to maritime, hospitality and creative businesses.
The council say that the plans will:
"ensure that all existing tenants can remain on the pier if they choose and many will be offered better accommodation under the plans.
In addition to the existing businesses it is proposed that a new quality restaurant will be located on the pier.
Car parking will be retained on the site. It is intended that some of the car parking area could also be used for events on occasion"
