Scarborough Athletic are just two victories away from reaching the proper rounds of the FA Cup as they prepare for a challenging away fixture against Macclesfield.
A place in the proper rounds of the FA Cup sits just two victories away for Scarborough Athletic.
The prospect of advancing in the famous knockout competition brings a difficult challenge this weekend, as the team travels to Cheshire. A tough fixture awaits against fellow National North side Macclesfield, but the squad heads into the game with confidence.
Physical preparations remain on track following a hard-fought one-all draw at Brackley last weekend. The recent league encounter left the squad in a relatively strong position regarding fitness and availability.
Manager Jono Greening confirmed his players suffered no major ill effects from the recent draw, despite a few minor physical complaints:
"No, I don't think so. Purves [Alex Purver Hannan] is obviously still, you know, feeling his groin, but he's a right trooper. Will [Thornton]'s done his neck in, but obviously carried on playing through the pain and carried on playing the game. And I think Wilesy's [Alex Wiles] back as well. So, we've got everyone back now apart from Greeny [Harry Green]. Hopefully Greeny should be back training within about 10 days, 14 days and then it will take him a bit of time to get up to speed to be match fit."
The financial and competitive prospects of the cup tie are also generating excitement behind the scenes. A substantial attendance is anticipated in Cheshire, providing a potential economic boost alongside the demanding footballing challenge.
Club chairman Trevor Bull shared his initial reaction to the tough draw:
"I thought, "Oh, no." So footballing wise, one of the toughest teams we could have been drawn against, because, of course, our level is the highest level in the competition at this stage. But then I got to think, well actually, there will be decent crowds so we could make a bit of money out of it. And we went there a few weeks ago and we drew nil nil with them. So that they won't be taking us lightly either. So I'm expecting a cracking game. Really looking forward to it. I think their crowd will be up for the cup after the heroics last year when they knocked out Crystal Palace. So, yeah, I'm looking forward to Saturday."
Kick off is 3pm.

The winners will receive £5,625, if the match is drawn, there'll be a replay at Scarborough Sports Village on Tuesday.
