Scarborough Athletic Coach Steps Down

Coach David Brown has left the club as management changes take effect.

Outgoing Scarborough Athletic coach David Brown says that the Boro fans will have plenty to look forward to under new boss Jono Greening.

With Greening looking to bring in his own backroom staff, Brown has strode through the exit door, but says he will still be avidly looking out for Boro's results on a Saturday afternoon.

He said:

"I spoke to Jono and he told me that he will be bringing in his own staff, I completely understand that, it is just football.

"There are no hard feelings, the same happened when Daz (Darren Kelly) took over at the club, he brought me in.

"I am a bit disappointed because I had an enjoyable spell at the club and I think there are some very exciting times ahead. I've gone from arranging friendlies and talking to players, to being out of a football club in just a few days. That is what happens in this game though.

"I hope Jono goes on and wins promotion, and it will be great for the supporters to get back into the ground and watch that - they deserve it.

"I've had a couple of offers from clubs about playing and there is no secret that wherever Daz goes I tend to end up.

"We'll have to see what happens though, I've got a bit of time to make my decisions."

It may have been a frustrating time at Boro on the coaching front for Brown, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but he still enjoyed his stay at the Flamingo Land Stadium.

He added:

"It was a shame really, we could never really get going.

"It was a stop-start season because of the pandemic, I think we only played a couple of home games, and that is where Scarborough pick up their points.

"There was the tier systems in place and players isolating, so you had to put square pegs in round holes. It was more about keeping players safe than working at a football club.

"I still enjoyed every minute of it though and I'll 100% still be looking out for Boro's results every week."

Boro director of football Fred Firman added:

"We would like to say a massive thank you to David for all he has done for the club. He has been a great servant and we wish him well for the future."
