A charity calendar that has already raised over £18,000 for volunteer lifeboat crews is returning to Whitby for its fourth consecutive year.
Vital equipment and training for volunteer lifeboat crews will be funded by the return of a highly successful charity calendar.
The Whitby RNLI calendar is now available for its fourth consecutive year, offering new photographs and historic snapshots to raise money for life-saving operations at sea. Over the past three years, the initiative has generated an impressive £18,168 for the charity through a suggested donation of £12 per copy.
Created by Whitby's RNLI museum curator, Neil Williamson, the 2027 edition features a mix of historic pictures from years gone by alongside recent images of Whitby's two lifeboats from last year.
Neil Williamson said:
"The calendar has been hugely popular, a lot of people buy one for themselves every year, plus more for family, especially if they have a personal connection to Whitby or the RNLI. Our Shannon Class lifeboat carries the names of over 10,000 people on the side so we know it means an awful lot to some families who added a name in memory of a loved one."
For the first time, this year's edition includes a contribution from a member of the public following a photography competition held during the spring.
The winning shot, which is featured prominently on the February page, captures the lifeboat crew sharing a conversation during the traditional blessing of the boats ceremony.
Neil Williamson explained the reasoning behind the selection:
"We chose the shot because its a bit different, it shows the crew relaxing together and their camaraderie - and it reminded us of a classic Frank Meadow Stucliffe image!"
Funds raised from the calendar directly support volunteers, including the local crew in Whitby, by covering the costs of essential kit and the training required to save lives at sea.
The project has been a collaborative community effort, with museum curator Neil Williamson, community manager Alex Maskery, coxswain Richard Dowson, and visits team member Nick Chambers all involved in launching the 2027 edition at the Whitby Lifeboat Station.
Copies of the calendar are available to purchase in person at the Whitby Lifeboat Station, as well as the RNLI Museum and shop located on Pier Road.
Anyone wishing to order a copy through the post is encouraged to email the museum directly at whitby_museum@rnli.org.uk.
