Police in North Yorkshire Not Meeting Target for 999 Call Answer Times

47% of calls weren't answered in the required ten seconds

53% of 999 calls to North Yorkshire police last month were answered in less than 10 seconds.

But that's some way off the national target of answering 90% of calls within that time frame.

Assistant Chief Constable Mark Pannone says extra funding for staff overtime has helped but there is more progress to be made.

The Assistant Chief Constable says staffing has been an issue for a number of months and things have improved since extra funding was made available for staff overtime.

North Yorkshire’s police, fire and crime commissioner Philip Allott said as a result of the pandemic on some days last month the force got record numbers of 999 and non-emergency 101 calls, even more than they do on the traditional busiest days of the year, such as New Year’s Eve.
