Patient care at a local hospice will benefit from a £400 funding boost following a successful seniors golf event on the Yorkshire Coast.
The vital funds for Saint Catherine's were raised during the Seniors Open Competition at South Cliff Golf Club in Scarborough.
Seventy-two players took to the coastal course for the annual event, travelling from as far afield as Guisborough, Chesterfield, York, and Rotherham. The overall winners of the competition hailed from Saltburn.
A sweepstake was held during the tournament to raise the money for the hospice, which organisers say was very well supported by the visiting golfers.
The decision to support the specific charity came from a personal connection within the club. Seniors vice-captain Ron Lee confirmed that the hospice was chosen to receive the donation because a club member’s wife was cared for at Saint Catherine’s.
Seniors captain Stuart Coney said:
"It was an extremely successful day, with people already asking to book for next year.
"The course is so popular due to the location, especially the holes on the seaward side."
Mr Coney added:
"It’s great to be able to support something local."
The financial contribution will go directly towards providing patient care at the hospice, which relies heavily on community backing to maintain its services.
Fundraising operations coordinator Susan Stephenson said:
"We would like to thank Stuart, Ron and all the players on the day for their amazing support and generosity.
"Without donations and support from our local community, we would simply not be able to do what we do, so thank you for helping to make our care possible."
