Scarborough and Whitby's MP says there's widespread anger about fracking plans in the area.
There is an ongoing gas drilling and "proppant squeeze" project proposed by Europa Oil and Gas in Burniston.
The application involves a 98 foot drilling rig to explore a potential gas resource.
It's faced significant opposition from Scarborough Town Council and Burniston Parish Council, as well as residents and Alison Hume herself:
"There is a huge public outcry. There's been 1500 objections. I realize that this is going before the planning committee, but just from a government point of view, the reason that it's not part of the moratorium prop and squeeze is that it is an industry. Standard used by the oil industry and therefore it's not contained in the fracking moratorium.
I'm pressing the government to include it in the ban and working very hard to do that and at Labour Conference, I will be holding a round table on that."
She says there's environmental concerns and increased HGV traffic:
"I'm very keen that my constituents get their democratic voice heard and that I again, state my objection to small scale fracking one kilometre from our national park."
Europa says its scheme would be positive for the local economy and that “no one’s going to notice” due to the “small volume” of the proposal.
