Northern Powergrid has mobilised teams to restore power to homes across the region as strong winds and heavy rain cause disruption to electricity supplies along the Yorkshire Coast.
Northern Powergrid has confirmed that it is responding to a raft of power cuts caused by an active weather front moving across the UK. The Met Office has issued a weather warning for the region, with gusts of 50-55 mph expected widely and the potential for speeds to reach up to 70 mph in some coastal locations.
A spokesperson for Northern Powergrid stated
"Our teams are restoring power to any affected areas safely, and as quickly as possible,"

The company has warned that the severe weather, which includes heavy rain, is impacting parts of their electricity network. Officials are currently assessing the extent of the damage to determine restoration times for affected customers.
Residents in Scarborough, Whitby, Filey, and Bridlington are being urged to report any power cuts online at https://northernpowergrid.com/power-cuts or by calling 105. For those who cannot access the internet, the provider is also accepting reports via WhatsApp on 0191 6872254 between 9am and 5pm.
Northern Powergrid is prioritising its Priority Services Membership customers and will be contacting them directly to offer additional help and peace of mind. Those who may require extra support, such as the elderly or medically dependent, are encouraged to register for this free service at northernpowergrid.com/care or by calling 0800 169 2996.
Safety remains a key concern during the storm. Members of the public have been advised to stay well clear of any fallen trees or damaged poles and overhead cables. If such damage is spotted, it should be reported immediately by calling 105.
The company has issued a list of tips for those currently without power, including turning off electrical appliances at the socket, keeping one light switched on to signal when power returns, and using battery-powered torches rather than candles. Residents are also advised to check on elderly or vulnerable neighbours and to ensure they have warm clothing and non-electric food supplies available.
With the Met Office warning that coastal routes and communities could see large waves and spray, the public is urged to remain cautious. In the event of a danger to life or a medical emergency, residents should call 999 immediately.
