Scarborough Athletic were 2-0 up with just 9 minutes remaining, but Macclesfield scored two late goals to take the FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round tie to a replay.
The very first opportunity of the game came for the hosts, who famously knocked out Premier League Crystal Palace in the Third Round proper last season.
Within a couple of minutes of the start, the ball bounced off Boro defender Jake Hull's head, but thankfully it was caught by keeper Ryan Whitley.,
Rio Allen then had a chance for Boro, as did Dyer for the Silkmen, his shot narrowly going wide
But it was the Seadogs who took the lead, when Rio Allen crossed in and Mo Fodera tapped in from close range, just a few minutes before the break.
And within a couple of minutes, Boro doubled their lead through a Luke Hall header. The Scarborough fans, who'd travelled in their hundreds, were in raptures.
Rio Allen nearly made it three for Scarborough when Fodera put him through on goal, but his shot went wide.
Then, hope for Macclesfield. Paul Dawson was first onto a loose ball and drove it past Whitley to give both sets of fans a nervy final ten minutes.
And with two minutes of normal remaining, Boro's hearts were broken when Paul Dawson scored his and Macclesfield's second to draw the sides level.
Here's the goals as they went in on THIS IS THE COAST EXTRA, with commentary from Will Baines:
Scarborough & Macclesfield have only ever drawn in the modern era. Twice in the league last season, and once at the Leasing.com Stadium in the league just a few weeks ago.
Boro would have taken a draw at league high flyers Macclesfield, but they will be bitterly disappointed not to have held on.
Boss Jono Greening admitted to SAFC TV he was left frustrated:
" Yeah, frustrated. Frustrated because I think we deserved to go through. I think we've missed glorious chances. A few in the first half, definitely three or four in the second half. I think Mo's had two or three chances to get some more goals. Rio's had a one-on-one with the keeper. He just puts it wide of the post. I think if he scored one of those, early in the second half, it kills the game a little bit. But we didn't do that and unfortunately, you know, we got punished towards the end."
By the time the replay takes place (likely Tuesday), the 4th Qualifying Round draw will have happened. That's scheduled to take place around 2pm on Monday 5th October.
