Next Quarter-Century Will Be A Struggle Says Yorkshire Charity

A Yorkshire community fundraising organisation which is marking it’s 25th anniversary says it expects the next 25 years to be hard work.

Two Ridings Community Foundation is an independent charity that supports hundreds of grassroots community and charitable organisations across North and East Yorkshire.

Their CEO is Celia McKeon:

Over the last 25 years, the Foundation has awarded more than £23 million in grants to over 7,000 community organisations.

These range from mental health support and food banks to youth work, community centres, and emergency response during floods and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Whatever the challenge, Two Ridings has been there supporting the people who are making an impact in their communities.

However, Celia says money is tight for many vulnerable groups they've helped previously:

To mark the anniversary, Two Ridings has launched a 25th Anniversary Appeal to raise £250,000. This will help the Foundation support more charities and reach more people, with the aim of increasing the total grants awarded to £25 million.

Celia believes there may be more division in communities in the future though it's something the charity aims to prevent:

She feels charities like Two Ridings are already taking on a great deal of responsibility and hopes the state can do more to support them in the future:

According to Celia, the cost of living, particularly for businesses, has made it tougher for Two Ridings and other charities to raise money:

A special celebratory event will take place at York Art Gallery on 1st October 2025, bringing together supporters, community leaders and partners. Additionally, a Community Time Capsule will be filled with stories, messages and hopes from across the region, to be sealed in 2025 and opened in 2050.

Celia revealed more about what Two Ridings do in North and East Yorkshire:
