More Violent Crime Reported in North Yorkshire

Figures show violent crime in North Yorkshire is increasing.

That's according to the latest data from North Yorkshire Police.

Violent crime now accounts for 40% of the incidents reported to the force.

Assistant Chief Constable Mark Pannone says the force are prioritising tackling the issues.

The data shows that In the 17 months (01/04/2020 –31/08/21) of Covid19 8,383 fewer crimes were committed and reported in North Yorkshire than in the 17 months prior to Covid19. However, the most recent data shows an increase in reported crime over the last 90 days with an increase in the proportion of violent offences being reported.

Assistant chief Constable Mark Pannone says that's partly due to people feeling more confident in reporting offences such as domestic abuse.

He says at the same time as violent crime is increasing some other forms of crime are going down.
