Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team were called out to rescue the man.
The volunteer rescue team were called by Yorkshire Ambulance Service to reports of a gentleman who had fallen from a significant height in a disused quarry in Forge Valley yesterday evening.
The team say :
"Two ambulance crews were on site treating the gentleman when we arrived and requested our assistance to clear vegetation from the scene, transfer the gentleman to one of our vacuum mattresses, casualty bag and bell stretcher and then carry him to the waiting ambulance. At the same time one of our vehicles met the Yorkshire Air Ambulance in East Ayton and drove their medical staff to the scene.
After treatment in the ambulance he was transferred by road to the air ambulance and flown to definitive medical care. In clearing the scene we discovered that his phone had been dropped on the sleep ground at the top of the vertical edge of the quarry so we deployed a rope team to recover the device and return it to his family. We were deployed for around two and a quarter hours."
