North Yorkshire Council have called off the works at Spital Bridge due to the effects of the Langdale fire.
They released the following statement:
'Due to the ongoing wildfire on Langdale Moor, the planned junction improvement works to the A171 Spital Bridge junction in Whitby have been postponed.
'We will provide an update on these works in due course.'
There are still a number of road closures mainly between Whitby and Scarborough due to heavy smoke from the blaze, which is now 20 days old.
