Dozens of residents have supported the proposed expansion of Scarborough’s North Bay Adventure Golf Course and the creation of additional seating and toilets.
The proposal for an expansion of Adventure Golf Scarborough has received the backing of more than 40 members of the public who have written to the council’s planning authority in support of the plans.
If approved, the existing kiosk would be relocated and two new toilets would be created alongside the addition of a new storage space.
The plan also proposes the erection of a covered seating space for patrons as well as an enlargement of the decking and walkway.
The course consists of nine holes, two of which would be entered and exited via the new decking area.
The applicant said it was “committed to providing an inclusive and accessible experience for all of our visitors” and noted that “most paths are wide enough for wheelchairs and mobility scooters, with smooth transitions between different areas”.
The proposal has received no objections from the Highway Authority or the council’s environmental health team, while North Yorkshire Police’s designing out crime officer offered advice on potential improvements.
The DOC officer said that “the documents and drawings that were available on the authority’s planning portal were insufficient to enable a meaningful assessment to be carried out” and they had to contact the applicant for additional information.
The officer said “the site is located within an area with low crime and disorder levels” but after reviewing the additional information “encouraged the applicant to install shutters to prevent access to the covered seating area after business hours”.
Members of the public have also backed the plans, with 43 letters in support and no objections to date.
Scarborough resident Suzanne James said:
“The staff are friendly and helpful and it really gives a boost to the tourist offering on North Bay in the absence of any of the other developments we have been promised over the years.
“Anything to make this venture bigger and better is to be applauded.”
Another local, Marco Floris, commented:
“Any business that is willing to invest in this town has my backing and the proposals seem to be sensible and with adding amenities an improvement.
“Looking at the town centre and all the empty buildings should be a warning. Do we really want the North and South Bay to look like this as well?”
North Yorkshire Council has not set a date for deciding on the application which is currently pending consideration.
