East Riding Council says it hopes to build up to 400 houses in the next year.
The authority's Portfolio Holder for Housing and Infrastructure is councillor Gary McMAster he says the number of news houses being built is increasing year on year.
"In the next 12 months I know that we have signed off and authorized more houses that should be produced in the next 12 months than in any 12 months period in the time I've been in this council, which is in excess of 10 years. So we are heading in the right direction in number terms.
I would say in the next 12 months, we'll probably produce in the region of about between 300 and 400 houses. So the numbers are growing rapidly, year on year."
Councillor McMaster says the council has been exploring new ways of building the homes including using modular buildings which it's hoped can speed up the building process.
"I am very keen to see modular come forward.
We just did a feasibility study on a particular site and in that particular occasion, it transpired was too expensive for us to do it ourselves with modular.
We try to look towards our local companies to help us. Obviously if we can invest locally, it'll be better. We are looking further afield to see if we can get other prices that may be more beneficial.
But at this moment in time, modular is not working out any cheaper, although it would be quicker to produce houses, but it's not necessarily cheaper."
Last year the Government announced revised targets for the number of homes that councils must approve to be built in their areas as part of the Labour party’s pledge to ‘get Britain building’.
Overall the government plan calls for 370,408 new homes to be built across the nation each year with the East Riding being asked to create 1,924 homes a year.
