Humberside Police Regularly Taking The Michael To The Station

The police force serving East Riding has revealed the most common names of those arrested in 2023.

Almost 190 people called Michael were arrested this year, making it the most common name of those apprehended by Humberside Police in Hull and the East Riding.

Meanwhile, 30 Emmas were arrested by the force over the same period putting it at the top of the list for women.

Data from a freedom of information request showed Michael topped the list of the most common names arrested this year with a total of 189, followed by Daniel with 188. James came third with 185 arrests, followed by David with 151, Mark with 143 and John with 140.

Those who had one of the 30 overall most common names, which were all male, were arrested for a total of 3,006 suspected offences between them. The most common suspected offence of those arrested was actual bodily harm, that caused by intentional of reckless assault such as battery, with a total of 323.

Lee followed John in the ranking of names, on a total of 133, with Paul coming eighth with 126, followed by Andrew on 111 and Christopher in 10th with 106 arrests. Joshua came next with 105 arrests, followed by Thomas with 102, Robert with 93, Ryan with 92 and Luke with 85.

Common assault came second on the list of suspected offences with 304 arrests, followed by ‘Warrant (no bail)’, 149, criminal damage to a property valued less than £5,000, at 145, and affray, fighting in public, totalling 135. The number of arrests on suspicion of burglary with intent to steal numbered 100, driving above the alcohol limit was 86, recall to prison after release on licence was revoked stood at 81, and shop thefts totalled 64.

Intentional strangulation was the tenth-most common on 62, followed by harassment without violence with 58, assault by beating with 57, breach of a non-molestation order with 57, and breaking of bail conditions with 43.

Meanwhile, data from Humberside Police showed 30 women called Emma were arrested in 2023, with Sarah the second-most common name with 28 detained. Victoria and Rebecca came joint third with 24 arrests each, while Nicola, Donna and Katie came in joint fourth with 22 each, followed jointly by Chloe and Rachel with 21 each.

Kerry came next with 20 detained, while 19 Scarletts and Samanthas were arrested, along with 17 Lauras and 16 arrests of women called both Claire and Gemma.
