A Grade II listed public house in the village of Sleights has been bought by a local couple who plan to sympathetically restore and reopen the venue to the community.
A historic village public house will reopen its doors to the community after being purchased by a local couple.
The Plough Inn, a Grade II listed building in the North Yorkshire village of Sleights, has been acquired by David and Katie Cattley. The new owners plan to safeguard the future of the historic venue by bringing renewed hospitality provision back to the area.
Situated on Coach Road, the property occupies a prominent position on the main route between Whitby and the North York Moors National Park. The venue boasts panoramic views across the Esk Valley and features extensive outdoor trading areas.
Alongside the main public house, the site includes three letting bedrooms and spacious accommodation for the owners. The pub has previously been renowned as a welcoming destination for both local residents and visitors travelling to the coast.
Purchasers of The Plough Inn, David and Katie Cattley, said:
"We are absolutely thrilled to have secured The Plough Inn. As local people, we understand just how important pubs like this are to their communities, and we're passionate about bringing this fantastic building back to life. Our vision is to sympathetically restore and refurbish the property, celebrate its heritage, and create a warm, welcoming pub that the village can once again be proud of. We look forward to reopening in 2027 and becoming part of the community for many years to come."
The freehold of the property was sold for an undisclosed sum, having been marketed with an asking price of £300,000. The transaction was managed by specialist business property adviser Christie & Co.
Marslie McGregor, Senior Business Agent at Christie & Co, managed the sale and commented:
"The Plough Inn represented an excellent opportunity for an owner-operator to acquire a characterful village pub with significant potential. We are delighted to have completed the sale to David and his partner, whose passion for the hospitality industry and commitment to restoring this much-loved local asset made them the ideal purchasers. We wish them every success with their refurbishment plans and look forward to seeing The Plough Inn thriving once again when it reopens."
