A free, rolling 12-week wellbeing programme for people living with chronic health conditions and their carers is launching at Alfred Bean Hospital in Driffield this August.
People living with chronic health conditions, along with their carers, family, and friends, will have access to a new rolling wellbeing programme in Driffield.
The free weekly drop-in sessions will begin on Tuesday 18 August at Alfred Bean Hospital, running from 1pm until 3pm. The initiative, organised by Saint Catherine's, aims to maximise the wellbeing of those dealing with life-limiting or long-term illnesses.
Support will be available for individuals managing a wide range of health issues. These include chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, neurological conditions, chronic pain, long COVID, frailty, dementia, diabetes, and arthritis.
No medical referrals are required to attend the group, and light refreshments will be provided for all participants. The 12-week programme is designed to be entirely flexible, allowing attendees to join at any point without needing to start in the very first week.
Organisers have planned a variety of themes, guest speakers, and activities for the weekly meetings. Future sessions will cover practical topics such as fatigue and energy conservation, sensory changes, symptom management, memory and concentration, benefits advice, and maintaining independence.
Occupational Therapist Katy Newton said:
"We're offering a varied programme and hope people will find it useful and interesting. It's a friendly, informal group and we're looking forward to welcoming both new and familiar faces. Along with time to chat over a cuppa each week, there will also be opportunities to take part in more structured sessions. We are grateful to the League of Friends of Alfred Bean Hospital, Driffield, with funding from the Dobson Family Charitable Trust 2021, for making this group possible."
The initial 12-week block will run from 18 August until 3 November 2026. After this period concludes, a new 12-week programme will immediately begin, featuring fresh topics, different activities, and new guest speakers to ensure ongoing support for the community.
Nicky Ingham, Treasurer of the League of Friends of Alfred Bean Hospital in Driffield, said:
"We are delighted to be supporting Saint Catherine's in expanding the services it offers at Alfred Bean Hospital. Sadly, many of us know someone living with one of these conditions, and we hope this new wellbeing group will help improve the quality of life for people across Driffield and the surrounding villages."
Attendees are encouraged to simply turn up on the day, as there is no need to book a place in advance. Participants are also welcome to attend as many or as few sessions as they wish throughout the duration of the rolling programme.
