Firefighters from Harrogate, Richmond and Whitby responded to a report of a fire in the open, on Sunday night.
It happened just before 8pm on Sunday, at Saltergate Bank, Lockton.
Crews used a nearby reservoir to enable the use of a Main Pump and used 2 hose reel jets and 2 main jets to surround and extinguish the fire.
The fire measured approx 400 x 400 metres in size and is believed to have been started deliberately.
