Hundreds of people are expected in Filey today for the tenth outing of the annual Filey 10k.
The event is Organised by the Filey Lions Club - with funds raised going to local clubs and charities.
The annual beach race commences at Filey Sailing Club, with competitors running south along the beach, turning near Hunmanby Gap and then returning to the Sailing Club.
Their fundraising chair is Mike Gibson:
"This is our 10th anniversary of running the event, and it's just gone from strength to strength
We've got, people running this time. , They've come from Sheffield, Barnsley, all across Yorkshire, some from Lincolnshire, some from Humberside. So it's a really well attended event and from quite a diverse guide of runners.
We've got individuals doing the race themselves. People that come in just to enjoy a run on the beach 'cause it's such a beautiful beach to do a run on. And we've got athletics clubs coming to run as well because the events actually run to England athletic standards.
Therefore the running clubs take part and it is good for them. "
Registration and booking in will take place on the decking at Filey Sailing Club and the race will start at 10am on Filey beach, below Filey Sailing Club.
Following the marked route, runners will head south along the beach to Hunmanby Gap, turn at the marked half way point and return to the finish line on the beach, below Filey Sailing Club
Mike said there's been more interest than ever this year:
"We were 110 people up on last year, so we've almost doubled what we did last year.
I think it's the fact the events getting. Known across Yorkshire.
Now all the running clubs across Yorkshire are contacted. But we've got a lot of repeat runners coming and certain clubs basically just grow and grow the numbers that want to attend. Because apart from the race itself obviously it's the International Food Festival in Farley this weekend.
So you've got people coming down to enjoy Farley. for the run, for the food festival
there's so much on in the town this weekend. Obviously the bars are open, the restaurants are open and it's great to get onto the side of the beach and cheer these people on."
