Scarborough Athletic's FA Cup journey has ended following a tense two-one defeat to Macclesfield in an extra-time replay.
FA Cup progression slipped through the fingers of Scarborough Athletic following a gruelling extra-time defeat to Macclesfield.
The 2-1 loss at the SSV brought heartbreak for Boro fans after a hard-fought replay that saw the hosts lead for much of the regular ninety minutes.
Early pressure tested the Scarborough defence, with goalkeeper Whitley forced into a save in the opening minute to deny an early Macclesfield chance. The visitors continued to press, winning a corner in the fourth minute that was quickly cleared by Maloney.
Boro quickly found their footing. Rio Allan created an opening in the fifth minute, pushing past Borthwick-Jackson and attempting to square the ball to Mo Fadera, though the effort was deflected out for a corner.
The breakthrough arrived in the eleventh minute, Jake Hull pouncing from a botched punch from keeper Christian Dibble.
Desperate defending kept the hosts in front just four minutes later. Whitley, Will Thornton, and Brown all made crucial blocks on the goal line to deny Macclesfield an immediate response.
The first half remained intensely physical. Big Jake Hull executed a crucial sliding tackle in the twenty-fifth minute to stop a Macclesfield shot, while Wilson found his way into the referee's book with a yellow card for a late challenge on a Boro player.
Injury struck the Scarborough camp just before the break.
Michael Duckworth sustained a serious knee injury and was stretchered off.

Kieran Weledji took his place on the field as the teams went into the break with Scarborough holding a 1-0 advantage.
The second half saw Scarborough pushing to extend their lead. Colville delivered a precise ball over the top to Fadera in the forty-ninth minute, though the subsequent pass to Dom Tear was intercepted. Whitley remained resolute at the other end, diving low to stop a drilled Macclesfield free-kick from the edge of the box in the fifty-third minute.
Tensions continued to flare as Paul Dawson received a yellow card for an ugly challenge on Lewis Maloney in the fifty-fifth minute. Dawson later came dangerously close to scoring for the visitors, smashing the post in the seventy-second minute.
Despite late chances, including Fadera shooting over the bar from the goal line following a square ball from Wally in the ninety-third minute, Macclesfield managed to level the score at one-all by the end of normal time.

Extra time proved decisive. Fadera almost restored the Scarborough lead in the ninety-ninth minute after intercepting a mistake by Dibble, but the Macclesfield keeper recovered to make the save.
The fatal blow landed in the one-hundredth minute. Danny Elliott found space at the back post and headed the ball into the net, giving Macclesfield a two-one lead.
Macclesfield then retreated into a low block, making it difficult for Boro to break through. Despite the defensive wall, Scarborough continued to create opportunities. Allan had a close-range shot saved by Dibble from five yards out in the one-hundred-and-twelfth minute.
Agonisingly close margins defined the final moments. Boro's Jack Waldron hit the bar from a free kick.
Frustration peaked in the one-hundred-and-nineteenth minute when the referee halted a promising Scarborough attack due to a Macclesfield injury, sealing the extra-time heartbreak for Boro.
