The Honeypot Inn near Filey has submitted plans to North Yorkshire Council to install eight prefabricated glamping pods to expand its tourism offering in the village of Speeton.
Eight glamping pods could be created in a ‘hugely popular’ area of North Yorkshire if plans are approved.
The well-rated Honeypot Inn near Filey could expand its tourism offering by installing eight prefabricated glamping pods in a neighbouring field.
The proposed site, which is in the village of Speeton, is made up of a parcel of enclosed grass east of the Honeypot Inn and has been registered as a van-certified site with the Camping and Caravanning Club “for many years”.

The applicants said they had been assessing options for diversifying their tourism offering to attract new customers, and the introduction of eight pods to create holiday accommodation at the site “presents a new opportunity for tourists to experience this area of the coast”.
Submitted plans state:
“This area of North Yorkshire is hugely popular with visitors, and it offers a tranquil spot where visitors can reside whilst being within proximity to the array of tourism offerings.”
They add:
“The existing Inn is a local well-known public house and restaurant with a large children’s indoor play area that is currently undergoing refurbishment, offering an excellent venue for families and adults alike.”
The applicants said that the number of glamping pods is “sparse in this area” and that most sites are “taken up by traditional caravan/camp sites which do not appeal to all”.
Reighton and Speeton Parish Council said it had no objections to the proposal.
The applicants added they are “amenable to providing additional landscaping in any specific areas subject to the comments of the local planning authority”.
North Yorkshire Council has not set a date for deciding on the application, which is open to representations from members of the public.
