Some of the world's best cyclists will race through Hornsea, Driffield, and other local communities when stage three of the 2026 Lloyd's Tour of Britain Men comes to East Yorkshire this September.
Coastal communities and market towns will welcome some of the world's best cyclists this September as the region hosts a leg of a major national sporting event.
The stage routes for the 2026 Lloyd's Tour of Britain Men's Cycle Race have been announced, confirming that stage three will take place across East Yorkshire on Friday the 4th of September.
A demanding 194-kilometre route will challenge riders with 1,612 metres of ascent. Competitors will depart from Hull and head out towards the stunning east coast, passing through Withernsea, Hornsea, and Skipsea.
Tough physical tests will await the peloton as the race heads towards Burton Agnes. A series of climbs will push the riders to their limits around Driffield, before the route drops downhill into Wetwang and speeds towards what promises to be an exciting finish in Beverley.
The local stage forms part of a massive 878-kilometre, or 546-mile, journey over five days of racing. The national competition will begin in Lincolnshire before moving up the coast to East Yorkshire, continuing north into North Yorkshire, and finally concluding in the Scottish Borders.
Significant financial and social benefits are expected to follow the peloton. East Riding Council Leader Anne Handley said:
"Major events such as this are about more than the race itself. British cycling research showed that the 2025 Lloyds tour of Britain brought in an overall economic impact of 62 million to the local areas that hosted the 10 stages, alongside significant social impact for communities across the country. Hosting the Lloyds tour of Britain Men is part of the partnership agreed between British cycling and Hull and East Yorkshire combined authority working with Hull City Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council to grow cycling and tourism links in our region. The route will highlight the very best of East Yorkshire. It's all fantastic in my opinion."
Spectators are expected to line the streets across the region to watch the sporting spectacle. Councillor Handley added:
"As the race passes through communities across the East Riding, there will be opportunities for residents and visitors alike to experience the excitement, support the riders, and celebrate cycling together. Events like these help put Yorkshire, East Yorkshire, on the map. They encourage people to discover to discover everything our area has to offer. They support local businesses and they give our communities a chance to come together around something positive. Beverley will provide a fitting backdrop for what promises to be a fantastic finish, and I look forward to seeing our area showcased once again to a national audience."
