The Reform UK Mayor of Hull and East Yorkshire, Luke Campbell, has appointed a new Special Advisor.
The former Olympic gold-medallist boxer, who was elected as the region’s first Mayor earlier in the year, has chosen the former Conservative MP for Great Grimsby and Cleethorpes, Lia Nici, for the role.
Ms Nici served as the Grimsby MP between the 2019 and 2024 elections. She was defeated in 2024 by Labour’s Melanie Onn, who had also held the seat prior to Ms Nici’s success in 2019.
Ms Nici was recently confirmed to have joined Reform UK. A source from Nigel Farage’s party told the Press Association that Ms Nici was one of three former Tory MPs who had joined the party “on their own accord online.”
In the role the former MP will support the Mayor’s attempts to achieve key aims and will offer political advice. It is a political appointment that Mayors are entitled to make.
Commenting on her new role, Ms Nici said:
“This is an exciting opportunity to support Mayor Luke’s vision for Hull and East Yorkshire. I’m looking forward to working closely with him and delivering on the priorities that matter most to local communities.”
Mr Campbell added:
“I’m delighted to welcome Lia to the team. I’m confident she will be a great asset as we continue working hard for communities in Hull and East Yorkshire.”
