A woman was airlifted to hospital after falling down a ravine while walking her dog in Dalby Forest on Wednesday.
The incident occurred on the popular Bridestones circular walk, prompting a multi-agency rescue operation.
The Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team were called to the scene by North Yorkshire Police at 11:57 am. Upon arrival, they discovered the woman had fallen over 10 metres down steep terrain after her dog went over the edge. Thankfully, the dog was unharmed and quickly brought to safety by team members.
The rescue involved a technical rope system to extract the injured woman from the ravine. Due to the complexity of the operation, additional support was requested from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, Yorkshire Air Ambulance, and Dalby Forest Rangers.
Paramedics from the air ambulance worked alongside mountain rescue personnel to assess the woman's injuries and administer pain relief. She was then secured in a vacuum mattress for protection. While this was taking place, other team members and forest rangers set up a rope system to carefully raise the woman back up to the path using a Bell stretcher.
After successfully bringing her to safety, the team transported her to the waiting air ambulance for evacuation to hospital. A total of sixteen mountain rescue volunteers participated in the rescue, which lasted five and a half hours. The team wishes the woman a speedy recovery.
