Construction students at East Riding College will become the first in the UK to use industry-standard project management software in the classroom.
Digital project management software will replace traditional paper blueprints for local construction students.
Industry-standard digital tools are being introduced to classrooms at East Riding College, which has a campus in Bridlington, making it the first college in the UK to partner with Fieldwire by Hilti.
The digital skills increasingly expected by employers will be taught to students through this pioneering partnership, which is supported by construction company Hobson & Porter and Hilti.
Complimentary Fieldwire licences have been provided to the college by Hilti, allowing students to use the platform throughout their studies following a successful pilot involving a single student.
Traditional paper-based documentation has been phased out since the start of the academic year. Blueprint schematics, coursework tasks, and evidence uploads are now accessed through the digital platform, which also allows students to receive real-time feedback from tutors.
The new technology has been met with overwhelmingly positive feedback from both students and staff, according to the college. Valuable experience using software found on live construction projects across the UK is being gained by students who are adapting quickly to the platform.
