Spectators attending day two of the County Championship cricket match in Scarborough are being encouraged to wear pink and purple to support St Catherine's Hospice.
A sea of pink and purple will wash over North Marine Road as cricket fans don vibrant colours to support end-of-life care in the community.
Spectators attending day two of the Yorkshire versus Leicestershire County Championship match in Scarborough are being urged to dress up and donate to St Catherine's Hospice.
The special charity day aims to create a striking visual tribute while raising vital funds for the local healthcare provider.
Alongside the colourful display in the stands, the partnership between the hospice and the cricket club will also see a special vibe ball event hosted in a marquee at the ground this September.
Dan Gregory says the club is eager to support the vital work of the local charity.
He said:
"Obviously really excited to be working with the hospice. They're obviously holding their vibe ball event here in the marquee in September, which hopefully is going to be a big success and raise a lot of money for them. Um but yeah, on on day two of the festival fixture which is Yorkshire versus Leicestershire in the Raufsa County Championship, we'll be encouraging people to wear pink or purple and make a small donation whatever they can, they feel they can to support the services that the hospice provides. I think everyone in the area knows of someone, a family member or a friend, who have utilized and needed the services that the hospice offer. So, it's something we'll be looking to do a lot more of going forward as as a club. It's incredibly important that we work with local charities and organizations um moving forward. Hopefully we can turn uh North Marine Road pink and purple for the day."
The colourful initiative mirrors similar successful charity days held at major cricket matches, but brings the vibrant concept directly to the Yorkshire Coast.
Organisers hope the visual impact of the crowd will celebrate the care provided by the hospice team and serve as a powerful reminder of their importance to families across the region.
Sue Stephenson from St Catherine's Hospice says they are delighted by the partnership.
She said:
"So we're really chuffed that they've teamed up with us on this one at the cricket club. It's a big match and we're really encouraging everybody that's going to the match to wear something pink or purple, and to do that to represent St. Catherine's to celebrate the organisation that we are and the check the care that we provide, and just to have that visual effect I think would be really lovely, to have that kind of sea of pink and purple in front of us on the day. I know it's a thing that's been done at cricket matches before, where um players and the crowd have have dressed in a certain colour for charity or to represent a certain cause. So, I just think it's really nice to bring that to Scarborough and to be doing it together with the cricket club."
