Classic Cars Set To Begin Epic 500-Mile Roman Road Journey From Robin Hood's Bay

A spectacular collection of classic vehicles are setting off from Robin Hood's Bay on Saturday before embarking on a 500-mile charity tour along Britain's ancient Roman roads.

A spectacular 500-mile charity classic car tour is launching from the North Yorkshire coast.

Historic vehicles will gather at the Hotel Victoria in Robin Hood’s Bay, creating a unique motoring spectacle against the dramatic coastal backdrop.

The coast-to-coast journey, officially named the Loxley Collection 500, will see drivers navigate Britain’s ancient Roman roads as they travel from the edge of the North Sea all the way down to Cornwall.

Spectators can expect excellent local photo opportunities as the vintage cars line up at the hotel before beginning their lengthy cross-country expedition.

Andrew Long explained the geographical inspiration behind the extensive route:

"We call it the Loxley 500 because it's literally just over 480 miles between Robin Hood's Bay and Mullion in Cornwall. It's linking the three hotel locations that we have, and interestingly, we're doing that via or the majority of that, via Roman roads. So, we're quite fortunate with the geography. So, we have Ermine Street coming down, literally past the front door of the White Hart Hotel in Bailgate, Lincoln, next to the cathedral, down into Cotswolds, Moreton-in-Marsh, and then one could say we've gone further south than the Romans ever did, because we're going south of Exeter, down to Mullion on the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall."

The charity tour will showcase an impressive array of motoring history, with a number of highly sought-after iconic vehicles scheduled to take part in the gathering.

Participants will officially begin their journey on the Friday, heading south from Robin Hood's Bay towards Lincoln for the initial leg of the trip.

Mr Long detailed the route from Robin Hood's Bay:

"Towards Pickering, Pickering to Malton, Malton to Beverley, and then across the Humber Bridge to arrive in Lincoln for about 2. We'll drive on to Station Road, Thorpe Lane, Fylingdales, and out to Sleights, that way across the moors and then south towards Pickering, Malton, and the Humber Bridge. We do have a recovery vehicle, which is my six-metre Brian James trailer. That will be behind a Range Rover just in case. We won't need it, but we all feel more confident knowing it's there."
