From Sunday, East Yorkshire Buses will implement a series of service changes designed to improve reliability, access, and travel options across Scarborough, Bridlington, and Driffield.
The updates, which include rerouted services, timetable adjustments, and new evening journeys, reflect both seasonal travel demands and feedback from local passengers.
Scarborough: Smarter Routes and Town Centre Access
Several services in Scarborough are being refined to address punctuality and congestion:
- Service 4 will now run through Scarborough Town Centre, offering improved access via Dean Road, Aberdeen Walk, York Place, Harcourt Place, St Thomas Street, Castle Road, and Queen Street. East Yorkshire Buses said this change “provides better links for local journeys and connections.”
- Service 8 is rerouted to avoid persistent parking issues, now turning left from Woodland Grove onto Old Scalby Road. The operator cited safety and reliability as key reasons for the adjustment.
- Services 9 and 10 will no longer enter hospital grounds during school start and finish times. Instead, they will stop on Scalby Road outside the hospital to ease congestion.
- Services 7 and 7A have been adjusted to better handle seasonal traffic along Seamer Road, with East Yorkshire Buses aiming to “keep journeys on time, especially during the busy summer season.”
Bridlington: Enhanced Connections and New Routes
Bridlington will benefit from improved connectivity and more frequent services:
- Coaster 13’s 14:55 journey from Bridlington will now run slightly earlier between Marton Road and Reighton Watson Lane, based on passenger feedback.
- The new EastRider 141 will connect Bridlington with Beverley and Castle Hill Hospital, running every 30 minutes. On Saturdays, it will also serve Beverley Hospital, Lidl, and Morrisons. East Riding of Yorkshire Council, which supports the service, said it “helps keep our communities connected.”
- EastRider 41 will see additional evening buses Monday to Thursday, aligning with Friday and Saturday schedules. The council noted this change “brings more flexibility for late dinners, shopping, or evening shifts.”
Driffield: Direct Links and Service Replacement
Driffield will gain more direct connections through the extension of EastRider X45:
- Most X45 services will now continue from Market Weighton to Driffield, replacing the withdrawn Service 145. This change, funded by the UK Government and East Riding of Yorkshire Council, aims to “make travel across the region even easier.”
Looking Ahead
Minor timetable changes are also being introduced to North Riding services 81 and 194, which serve areas affected by summer traffic congestion. These adjustments are intended to “add resilience to the timetable,” according to East Yorkshire Buses.
The company encourages passengers to check updated timetables online and plan ahead for the new routes and schedules. With support from local councils and government funding, the changes reflect a broader commitment to improving public transport across the Yorkshire Coast.
