Bridlington Town produced an excellent second-half display to come from behind and secure a 4-2 victory away at Matlock Town in an entertaining Northern Premier League East encounter.
The Seasiders made the perfect start, taking the lead inside two minutes. Destiny Nnenanya received the ball inside the Matlock penalty area with his back to goal before laying the ball into the path of Salam on the edge of the box. Salam's effort took a deflection on its way through,
wrong-footing the goalkeeper and finding the net to give Bridlington an early advantage.
Matlock responded well and began to create opportunities of their own, with Alex Baird called upon on several occasions. The hosts levelled in the 15th minute when a free kick from the edge of the area was expertly struck over the wall and into the top corner, leaving Baird with no chance.
Five minutes later, Baird produced an excellent recovery save. A miskicked free kick presented Matlock with an unexpected opportunity, with the resulting effort appearing destined for the net before the Bridlington goalkeeper recovered to get back to his goal line and gather.
Matlock thought they had completed the turnaround in the 23rd minute when a scramble inside the Bridlington box ended with the ball in the net. However, the referee's whistle had already gone for offside and the goal was ruled out.
The Seasiders grew into the contest as the half progressed. Stewart went close in the 33rd minute when he picked the ball up on the edge of the area and unleashed a powerful strike, only for the Matlock goalkeeper to make an excellent save and tip the effort over the bar.
Baird was immediately called into action at the other end, producing another important save to keep the scores level.

Bridlington finished the first half strongly, with Bolino finding Nnenanya inside the area. Nnenanya's clever flick created an opening, but the Matlock goalkeeper was able to parry the effort away for a corner.
The sides went into the interval level at 1-1, but Bridlington came out for the second half with real purpose. Just five minutes after the restart, the Seasiders regained the lead.
Salam's corner found Markham, who rose highest to send a header towards goal. The effort took a deflection on its way through, taking it beyond the goalkeeper and into the net to make it 2-1. Bridlington continued to press and were rewarded again eight minutes later.
Salam received the ball back from Stewart and produced a superb piece of individual play, using his close control to work his way past two Matlock players before combining with Ben Tweed. The move opened up the space for Salam to place a composed finish into the far corner, putting the Seasiders 3-1 ahead.

Bolino almost added a fourth shortly afterwards. The winger brought the ball down brilliantly on the left before taking on his marker with a series of stepovers and ball rolls. He drove into the area but could only fire narrowly wide.
Matlock were not prepared to surrender the contest and pulled a goal back in the 68th minute. A ball over the top released the Matlock attacker down the left, and after beating his man he drilled a dangerous ball across the face of goal. Baird got a hand to it but could only palm the ball into the path of the onrushing striker, who tapped home to make it 3-2.
Any thoughts of a Matlock comeback were quickly put to bed. Just three minutes later, Stewart restored Bridlington's two-goal advantage. After the ball bobbled up off him, Stewart found himself through one-on-one with the goalkeeper. With the Matlock stopper rushing from his line, Stewart kept his composure before smashing the ball home from close range to make it 4-2.
The Seasiders managed the remainder of the game intelligently, frustrating the hosts while continuing to look dangerous on the break.
Matlock continued to search for another route back into the game, but Baird was once again on hand in the 84th minute, producing another important save to turn an effort behind for a corner. The resulting set piece came to nothing.
There was a late flashpoint in the 90th minute when a heavy challenge on Ripley down the far side sparked pushing and shoving between players from both sides. Tempers eventually settled, allowing Bridlington to see out the remaining minutes and secure all three points.
After a competitive first half, the Seasiders were outstanding after the interval, scoring three times to turn a 1-1 scoreline into a convincing 4-2 away victory.

Salam's two goals were complemented by strikes from Markham and Stewart, while Baird played his part at the other end with several important saves throughout the afternoon.
Bridlington now return home with four goals and three points from an impressive afternoon on the road, as they look to Morpeth at home on Saturday.
