Almost £800 has been raised for the Bridlington RNLI following a successful charity dog show hosted on the town's promenade.
Almost £800 will go towards funding lifesaving operations at sea following a successful community dog show on the Yorkshire Coast.
Hundreds of residents and holidaymakers gathered on the promenade outside the Bridlington Lifeboat Station for the event, which was jointly hosted by the RNLI and Aldgate Vets.
The popular dog show attracted nearly fifty entries from across the region. Gina Eagle, from the local dog training business K9 Stars, judged the competition, which saw Bonnie the Labrador take home both the Best Veteran and Best in Show awards.
Other winners included Yumi the Shitzu for Best Puppy, Bella the Spaniel for Prettiest Girl, and Toby the Poochon for Most Handsome Dog. Luna, a Cane Corso and Border Collie cross, secured two titles for Best Crossbreed and Waggiest Tail.
Alongside the main competition, visitors enjoyed a packed programme of stalls, refreshments, and activities. Local businesses, including Wold Escapes, El Sparkey’s Mexican street food, and Phillip Anthony photography, donated prizes for a tombola and raffle.
Attendees also had the opportunity to meet the RNLI crew and the team from Aldgate Vets, who were on hand to offer advice on responsible pet ownership and animal health.
Laura Crossland from Aldgate Vets praised the community effort.
"Thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a success; our volunteers, exhibitors, local businesses who donated prizes, everyone who entered the dog show, and everyone who came along to support us. It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying the day.
"We're committed to supporting the health and welfare of animals, and we know just how much our clients and the wider community enjoy spending time with their dogs on our fantastic local beaches and coastline.
"The sea can be unpredictable, and our local RNLI volunteers do an incredible job keeping people and their pets safe along our coastline. That's why we're so proud to support such an important local charity."
The funds raised are vital for the charity, as around ninety-seven per cent of RNLI frontline lifesavers are volunteers who dedicate their spare time to maritime rescues. The organisation relies entirely on donations and fundraising to provide the necessary training, equipment, and lifeboats needed to respond to coastal emergencies.
Mike Milner, the Lifeboat Press Officer at Bridlington RNLI, expressed his gratitude for the turnout.
"Thank you to everyone who came along to support the RNLI. We are incredibly grateful for the generosity shown by the local community and our visitors, as well as everyone who gave their time to help make the event possible.
"Every dog show entry, raffle ticket and donation helps ensure our volunteer crews have the training, equipment and lifeboats they need to save lives at sea. Every pound raised makes a real difference, and we can't thank everyone enough for their support."
The partnership between the two organisations is set to continue throughout the year. Aldgate Vets, which operates as the only remaining non-corporate veterinary practice in the area, has planned a further programme of fundraising events.
Established in 1996 with roots tracing back to the 1940s, the independent mixed veterinary practice will also display RNLI water safety information at both its Bridlington and Driffield clinics to help keep pets and their owners safe.
Donations to the Bridlington RNLI can continue to be made at the veterinary practices in Bridlington or Driffield, as well as through their dedicated online fundraising page.
