Temperatures will hit 36 degrees Celsius in some areas, prompting urgent warnings for vulnerable and elderly groups.
The amber alert will activate at 9am on Tuesday, August 11th, and will remain in place until 9pm on Friday, August 14th.
Serious health risks will rise alongside the temperatures, with the National Health Service and other care providers warned to expect additional pressure over the coming days.
The UK Health Security Agency issued the updated warnings for nine regions across England. Nearly all of the country is covered by the amber alert, while the North East is under a yellow alert during the same period.
The affected amber regions include Yorkshire and the Humber, the West Midlands, the East Midlands, the East of England, the South East, London, the South West, and the North West.
Health officials are advising the public to take immediate precautions to protect themselves and their local communities from the extreme heat.
Polly Ashmore, Acting Consultant in Public Health at the UK Health Security Agency, said:
"It’s important that everyone is aware of the simple steps they can take to stay safe during periods of hot weather.
Drinking plenty of water, avoiding the sun during the hottest part of the day and keeping indoor spaces cool are all things you can do to keep yourself and others safe.
For vulnerable groups including older adults and those with existing health conditions, warmer weather than result in serious health outcomes.
We urge health and social care services to ensure they are prepared and encourage people to check on vulnerable friends and family to make sure everyone is aware of the forecast, follows the necessary advice and stays safe in this period of hot weather."
