Packed with rousing classics, fascinating history and plenty of laughs, this lively, high-energy sing-along revives the golden age of community music-making. Alongside the music, Tom brings the stories behind the songs vividly to life – from the touching and tragic tale of the brothers who wrote the WWI favourite Pack Up Your Troubles, to why it was Every Night Something Awful in WWII, and just what those mysterious bluebirds were doing over the White Cliffs of Dover (given they’re not even native to Britain!). Expect many more surprising, moving and downright amusing tales along the way.
Joining Tom is acclaimed cabaret star and “songbird of Trafalgar Square” Lili Redman, his co-host on their acclaimed podcast The A to Z of Wartime Song. Bringing vintage glamour, sparkling wit and a treasure trove of songs from Gracie Fields, Vera Lynn and beyond (plus a few deliciously cheeky numbers), Lili adds her own irresistible charm to the party.
Warm-hearted, nostalgic and gloriously fun, Tom Carradine’s Wartime Songbook is an evening of music, memories and merriment – filled with audience participation, community spirit and a flag-waving finale to rival the Last Night of the Proms.
So gather your friends, clear your throats and get ready to raise the roof in song!
