ASOS pays tribute to co-founder after death from Thailand balcony fall

ASOS has paid tribute to its co-founder after he died in a fall from the balcony of his apartment in Thailand.

Quentin Griffiths fell from the 17th floor of the apartment block in the seaside resort city of Pattaya on 9 February, Thai have police said.

Police said initial investigations suggest there are no indications of foul play.

An Asos spokesperson said: "We're saddened to hear about the passing of Quentin, one of our original co-founders.

"He played an important role in Asos's earliest days and we're forever grateful for his contribution. Our thoughts are with his family and friends."

Police said CCTV showed no sign of anybody entering Griffiths' apartment, where he lived alone, the force added.

His body has been sent for a post-mortem, they added.

The police also quoted a Thai friend of Mr Griffiths saying he had been worried about lawsuits from his former wife, who is a Thai national.

Documents related to those lawsuits were found in the apartment, they added.

Mr Griffiths cofounded fast-fashion retailer ASOS in 2000 and remained a large shareholder after leaving the company.

A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said: "We are supporting the family of a British national who has died in Thailand and are in contact with the local authorities."
