It is a winters night. The storm outside gets ever louder. Two strangers are trapped, not able to move on, but unable to stay.
Outside, a presence moves closer. Inside, they share the tales of distant times and faraway lands. Waiting...
Who are they, whats their story? Friends, innocents, showmen, or something a little more intriguing?
Only time will tell.
After a hugely successful tour in 2021, Another Winters Tale, from the award-winning company, Dogwood Productions, returns. Produced especially for the winter months, the show is rich in original live music from award-winning composer, Alastair Collingwood
The show has family audiences firmly in mind, with humour, songs and an enthralling story. It includes shadow puppets, hand puppets and a Kamishibai, a traditional Japanese street theatre.
The show draws upon tales of deepest winter from the frozen North, across Europe and much nearer to home. The stories could not be more diverse: from the joyful to the dark, the new and the familiar, all performed by the company of travelling strangers. Its also a celebration of seasonal songs, including the show’s own composition, released to raise fund for the Crisis at Christmas charity.
The company has specialised in taking new writing, rich in live music and with outstanding puppetry, to community venues since 2016. Some of its work has subsequently made its way before larger audiences with a sold-out performance at the RSC and being transmitted on both BBC Radio 4 and the World Service.
The show features Roberta Bellekom as The Stranger, recently seen with Norwich Puppet Theatre’s Pinocchio and in Seagulls Saved The World, touring Cornwall. Later in 2022, she will play the lead in the award-winning play, Rotterdam. Before lockdown she appeared in Villain Interrupted at the Ecetera Theatre, London. This followed an extensive tour in David Walliams Awful Auntie playing the West End and major theatres throughout the UK.
Alastair Collingwood plays The Other Stranger. He has and written scores for numerous shows, including Dogwoods last three productions, Betty (Ambassadors), and Cora which played the Lyric, Hammersmith and toured the USA. His awards include a Fringe First as a performer. His TV credits include music for French and Saunders, the sitcoms, Mad About Alice and Rhona. He also teamed up with comedienne Jackie Clune, for the radio comedy shows The Day The Music Died (BBC Radio 2) and Happy Families (BBC Radio 4).
